GreenWorks Electric String Trimmer Review

GreenWorks Electric String Trimmer Review

GreenWorks, as the name might give a hint, is a company that makes environment-friendly power tools. If you’ve heard of and seen an Ego Power+ product, you couldn’t help but see that GreenWorks pretty much copied the company’s design.

But that’s not our problem. The GreenWorks Electric Trimmer is a highly rated and praised weed-eater. If you’re reading this, it means that you’re in need of such a product.

You’ve come to the right place, of course. In the following, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about this outstanding power tool.

About The Product

The great thing about this trimmer is that it can be purchased in three versions, each of them with a different cutting width. You can get it with an 18” cutting path, a 15” and lastly, a 13”.

All of them have different amperages, as well. The GreenWorks trimmer looks cool and is as efficient as it is stylish. I know that most of you refrain from purchasing products with eye-catching designs because you affiliate those with poor quality.

That applies to many trimmers, I’m sure of that, but not to this one.

Here Are Some Notable Features

  • 10 Amps motor (on the one with the widest cutting path)
  • Cord lock
  • Auto Feed Spool (nothing special, since all trimmers have this nowadays)
  • Edging capability (cool addition)
  • Adjustable shaft

Overview

It definitely doesn’t have many innovations, but it does its job. The price is unbelievably low for such a product. I mean, the cutting width solely makes up for the entire price.

While it’s certainly nothing out of the ordinary, this trimmer does what it’s supposed to be doing. Its huge cutting width ensures that you’ll finish trimming the grass a lot faster than you would with another brand.

If you want to make it even better, you can purchase various attachments from the same manufacturer or some other ones. I guess that you couldn’t get a better trimmer for this price.

Due to the fact that you have to plug it in, you won’t need to worry about running out of gas or seeing the “Battery Empty” led-light.

I’m not really a fan of corded trimmers, but I must admit it’s nice to be trimming the grass without a worry in the world.

The trimmer can also be used as an edger with a 1-minute max turn of the guard. I’m a great fan of trimmers/edgers, so this is definitely an advantage for me.

What Others Say

As with any other product, regardless of manufacturer, this has both positive and negative reviews. While some praise its functionality, the quality-price rapport and overall feasibility, others warn customers that this isn’t durable.

I tend to think that a product will last you longer if you take proper care of it. And I’m sure that many people don’t do it. Moreover, some individuals bought this with some high expectancies.

I mean, if you read the description, you kind of figure out this is a simple, straightforward string trimmer. It’s not heavyweight or anything, so having some preconceived notions about it will lend you into a world of hurt.

What We Like

Personally, I like that you get no more and no less than what is advertised. The price lets you know that this is as simple as a string trimmer can get. It’s not subpar, don’t get me wrong.

It’s just a basic product meant for basic needs. The manufacturer does not make any promises that it doesn’t keep. You’re basically screamed in the face: “Man, this is a customary string trimmer.”

I don’t know about you, but I appreciate honesty more than anything else. In terms of functionality, this is as good as the next string trimmer, really. It chews through grass like there’s no tomorrow.

What We Don’t Like

One thing I didn’t like about this trimmer is the trigger. You have to squeeze it real tight to keep it running. That wouldn’t be a problem, but your finger can go numb.

There are no other problems, but I would advise the manufacturer to look into the trigger issue. And I’m not weak or anything. Many other customers complained about this, so I’m by no means the only one confronting with it.

There are many negative reviews on many sites, or not as much “negative reviews” as… reasonable observations. For instance, there are people who warned others not to be too harsh on it, because it’s not for heavyweight jobs.

And that’s true. It’s a light trimmer that wouldn’t do much good if forced to do something it wasn’t made for. Keep that in mind when you purchase it.

Buying Advice

If you want to make sure you’re not wasting your money on a copy, I highly recommend buying – or at least considering purchasing – this trimmer from Amazon. There’s free shipping waiting for you there.

Amazon is also where you’ll find the three cutting width options available at any hour. You can purchase it from other sites, of course, but I’m not sure you’re going to get free shipping there.

But the ultimate decision is yours and no-one can interfere with it.

Conclusion

Personally, I think this is a good buy as long as you’re not expecting too much from your trimmer. I’m also inclined to say that the numerous negative reviews are not to be taken for granted.

There are some issues with this trimmer that need to be addressed right away. I haven’t had any problems with it, in terms of functionality, but many other people did. I don’t think it’s their imagination or reckless maintenance at this point.

But then again, it’s a really cheap trimmer/edger (less than $85), so I can only assume the manufacturer did let some “loose screws” slip in. Overall, it’s a good product. Not fantastic. Just good.

If you’re shopping on a budget, this could be a good buy. If you want a more durable trimmer, I suggest you consider one of the other string trimmers we’ve reviewed.
