Black + Decker is a company whose name is already known by the vast majority of the population. It’s not difficult to understand why, because in the recent years, Black + Decker became competition for giants like Stihl and Husqvarna.
That can be explained by the quality of their products, as well as by the amount of attention to detail they give proof of. You’re going to see in the remainder of this article that I’m not talking groundless words.

What’s nice about this model is that it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It doesn’t have a design that stands out, and it doesn’t have a ton of accessories. Why is that a good thing? Because it does its job.
More often than not, manufacturers make overly intricate designs because they know their products lack in quality. Creating stunning designs is the only way they can sell their products, or at least attempt to.
This doesn’t want to be a fashion statement. It’s a string trimmer, and that’s it. It has more power than you would have even dreamed, even though it’s on batteries, and purportedly the weed-eaters working on this type of power are less efficient.

- PowerDrive Transmission (it has something to do with the power that goes straight to the string, ensuring more rotational spin, subsequently more force)
- 40-volt lithium battery
- 2 power options: Max Power (8500 RPM) and Max Runtime (6500)
- Can be turned to edger
- Automatic Feed Spool
- Not bad at all. It couldn’t be any other way, taking into consideration the price.
Overview
Thanks to the Max Power option that grants you maximum RPM, you can take on some really strong and thick weeds. If you want to save the power of the battery, you can set it on Max Runtime, which decreases the RPM by 2000.
Personally, I love this little innovation here. I haven’t seen it anywhere else, but I can say one thing: it does make a difference.
Also, the 40-volt battery grants enough power to the trimmer/edger to make it better than at least 50% of cordless trimmers.
This is among the best-rated string trimmers in the industry at the moment. You shouldn’t wonder why twice because it’s obvious. The trimmer’s durable, made with a top-notch material, it has a balanced weight and all in all, serves you perfectly.
And, like any other trimmer, it needs minimal maintenance. Minimal, but on a regular basis.

I just mentioned that the LST136W is extremely well-rated. There are thousands upon thousands of reviews from satisfied customers that wouldn’t give it away for its weight in gold.
I wouldn’t either, particularly because it’s one of the few power tools that proved to be the investment I’d hoped it’d be.
Many people love that it’s lightweight and that the battery charges fully in less than one hour. Moreover, you can trim up to 60 minutes with a full battery (although obviously not on max setting).
What We Like
What I do like about this Black + Decker model is… everything. From top to bottom, it’s a cool addition to my pile of tools. I miss my old and trustworthy Husqvarna, a trimmer so old that grass was more like running from it that it was cutting it off. Still, this one is really cool.
I know that color isn’t a criterion for 99% of the population, but unfortunately, I’m a visual kind of guy, and I liked the black-red combination. I think that’s more of an orange, but anyway.
It’s not that expensive, even though some people may have a bone to pick with the price. Considering the overall quality of the item, I say the price is quite justified. There’s one major downside to this otherwise nice product.
What We Don’t Like
And no, it’s not the motor burning out. I honestly don’t understand how people can blow things up in such a short time. If you can’t deal with technology, then use a traditional scythe.
It’s the pricing I don’t like. You’re supposed to pay almost $150 for this item, with the battery included, but if you buy it without the said battery, the price is halved.
Color me doubtful, but I don’t think a battery is worth 70 dollars or is it? I think that’s a bit greedy. Apart from this pitfall, there’s nothing I have to say against this great product.

Concluding Remarks
The Black + Decker LST136V is a really good string trimmer. I don’t understand the pricing – yes, I do say it again.
In terms of quality, I cannot badmouth this trimmer even if I wanted to. It’s high-quality, durable and unbelievably powerful for a weed-eater that works with batteries. This type of trimmer is the one I’ve always stayed away from.
